Meet Sanjay, A Hardworking Family Man

Recognizing great workers in Nepali factory

Congratulations, you won the employee of the month award! How did you feel when you found out that you won?

Thank you. I felt really happy because I felt like my hard work was being noticed.

We want to get to know you a little bit better. Can you tell us about your family?

I live with my wife, children, mom, dad, and one of my sisters and her children. I have been married almost 15 years. My son is 12 years old and my daughter is 3 years old. I have three older sisters and one younger sister. My sister Bunu lives with me, she also works at Purnaa. One of my other sisters, Sharmila, also works at Purnaa. I work for my family so that I can take care of them.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I like to read the Bible, play games, and watch TV. I don’t like to travel around very much, I’d rather stay at home with my family. I like to read the Bible with my family. Almost all of my family members are Christian.

Who is your role model and why?

I would say I have three, my mom, dad, and wife. They motivate me and encourage me. They motivate me to work hard.

What is something fun or interesting you have done recently?

I like to make my home a fun place. I do impersonations, sing, and dance. My daughter and son will join in with me too. I like to have fun with my family.

If you only had one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

I would say happy or jolly.

When have you been the most satisfied in your life?

Every payday at Purnaa. I distribute money to my father, mother, and wife. I work hard all month and when it is time for distribution I feel good. I feel joyful that day. Most of the time I am joyful, but on that specific day it is even more so.

What is your job at Purnaa?

I am a sewer on Team Laliguras.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I feel good when there are no quality control fails, when things go according to what you hope for.

How long have you worked at Purnaa?

Almost 2 years.

What did you do before you worked at Purnaa?

I used to work at a different clothing manufacturer in Kathmandu. My job was to do overlock (serger) on t-shirts.

What is different about Purnaa from other places you have worked?

Everyone is very nice here, including the leaders, owners, my friends, and co-workers. Payday is timely; you get paid on time every month. In other places, it is hard to get paid on time. Also in other places the school allowances and health care are difficult, but here at Purnaa, it is good. My family and my kids are happy because I work here. That’s why I don’t want to leave. I want to work here always. I want to work here and do hard work, always.

What keeps you coming to work?

I love Purnaa. I love everyone here.

If you had to convince a friend to apply for this job, what would you tell them?

I will explain to them that it’s good for you and your family. You will learn how to work in a disciplined way.

How have you changed as a person since working here?

My kids have been getting a good education and my family is happy. In my previous job I had to sometimes work night shifts and that would make my family worried. Now I never have to work overnight. When I would go home from my other job I used to be sad every time, but now I am happy. My family is happy, so I am happy.
